GRANTHAM, Pa. - The tandem of Mallie Thomas and Kylie Schner combined for 36 kills on Friday night, but it was not enough on the night as the host Messiah University held off a valiant effort from the Red and White to post a 3-2 non-conference victory at Hitchcock Arena.
First set
An ace by Avery Butcher and kills from the trio of Caroline Cusson, Schner and Thomas had the visitors trailing 9-7 to get things going.
- Emery Fishbach and Schner kept the gap at two (11-9), but a 7-3 charge for the hosts made it 18-12.
- Service errors by Kayla Batty and Claire Marzolino, coupled with a score for Norah Oppenheim, left the score at 23-15, before scores for Makenzie Adams and Leah Youtzy ended the frame (25-15).

Second set
An assisted block between Jessica Currie and Cusson, along with kills for Schner and Thomas off setups by Brenna Williams, made it 5-3 DC.
- Following a kill put away by Clara Conner, Lora Flynn, Currie, Cusson, Fishbach, Oppenheim, Schner and Thomas stretched the margin to 15-11.
- Scores for Hannah MacCartney and Adams did little to cut into the deficit (19-13).
- Two Currie kills and singles for Cusson, Schner and Thomas set the 25-19 win.
Third set
- Four Falcon errors and a Butcher ace had the guests up 5-4 to kick things off.
- The sides traded the ensuing ten points with Oppenheim, Schner and Thomas giving the Red and White an 11-9 edge.
- Two points each from Sydney Wolfe and Adams helped to flip the score around, putting the Falcons ahead 16-14.
- Powerful kills for Oppenheim and Schner, as well as a joint block by Fishbach and Schner, put the Devils in good shape at 21-20.
- However, the home side claimed five of the next six, with a kill from Lexi Hetrick making it 25-22.
Fourth set
- Katie Arcara joined Currie, Cusson, Fishbach, Schner and Thomas in recording points to take a 9-6 lead.
- Two more Schner kills and an ace for Arcara pushed the margin up by one to 12-8.
- Following a 4-0 run to tie things at 12, multiple kills from Adams helped the Falcons to reclaim a slim one-point advantage, 19-18.
- Four Messiah mistakes brought DC level, 22-22, before kills for Schner and Thomas finished things off, 25-23.
Fifth set
- Adams, Batty, Conner and Wolfe got the hosts out to a commanding 9-3 advantage.
- Currie, Cusson, Fishbach and Schner kept on fighting for the Devils, getting to within 13-7.
- A trio of Thomas kills and a single by Arcara cut the deficit to 14-13, before a missed serve by Maisy Naff unfortunately ended the match.
