BALA CYNWYD, Pa. - The Dickinson squash program put forth a strong performance this weekend at the College Squash Association Doubles Championships hosted by the Cynwyd Club.
The duo of Katie Herring and Anabel Romero Gemmell made the biggest splash of the tournament, earning a third-place finish. After getting the top seed and a bye into the semifinals, they opened up their tournament with a matchup against Vicky Lai and Eloise Levin from Columbia University. The teams traded the first two games before the Lions tandem secured the match with wins of 15-14 and 15-13. That sent them into the third-place match, where another pair of Columbia athletes awaited them. This time it was the Devils who got the better of the Lions, defeating Kenzy Abostate and Maggie Ruger in three (15-6, 15-8, 15-13).
Herring also joined with Will Krizek to take part in the mixed doubles bracket. The duo opened up by dropping the first game to Devon Li and Eugenia Li (Columbia) before winning the next three 15-8, 15-10, 15-10. That moved them into the semifinals to match up with Columbia's Andreea Ghiorghisor and Ahmad Haq. Unfortunately for the Devils, their tournament ended here with a three-game loss to the Lions (15-13, 15-12, 15-12).
Congrats to all of our Red Devils who competed this weekend and best of luck in your upcoming season!
