CARLISLE, Pa. – The Dickinson men's soccer team held Christopher Newport to just four shots on goal, but it was not enough as the Captains beat the Red Devils 1-0 on a late goal in a neutral-site game in Leesburg, Va.
First half
The Captains challenged Gavin Marr early, as he saved a shot off the foot of Joe Summerfield in the 10th minute.
Corners from Christopher Newport's Josh Monzon in the 28th minute and Dickinson's Henry Schultz in the 37th would both fail to result in shots for their respective teams.
Marr was called upon again in the 40th, stopping a shot from Ryan Buckon.
Second half
The Captains took three corners in the first 13 minutes, but failed to take a shot following any of them.
The Red and White's lone shot on goal came in the 72nd minute courtesy of Darian Crim, but it was saved by Captains goalie Matt Yates.
Michael Hackworth's attempt in the 84th was again saved by Marr, and a corner shortly after by Christopher Newport did not produce a shot.
Josh Monzon found the back of the net in the 88th minute for the Captains, with Hackworth receiving credit for the assist.
That one late goal was all that Christopher Newport needed, as neither team recorded a shot in the final 1:22 following the Monzon goal.
Dickinson (6-6-2) will head to Annville, Pa., on Thursday at 8 p.m. to face Lebanon Valley College in a developmental matchup before returning home to Miller Memorial Field to welcome Swarthmore on Saturday at 6 p.m.
