CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson women's soccer team welcomed the 16th-ranked Johns Hopkins University to Miller Memorial Field on Wednesday night for a battle of two of the top three teams in the Centennial Conference with playoff seeding on the line. Unfortunately for the Red and White, a marker in each half for the Blue Jays propelled them to a 2-0 win under the lights. The win put the visitors back at the top of the standings, while locking Dickinson into the third seed in next week's tournament and guaranteeing a home match next Tuesday.
First half
The visitors were on the front foot early with the trio of Addi Dauler, Katie Derby and Carolyn Johnson each taking a shot, but none of them tested Pico Gray.
In the 14th minute the Jays took the lead as the ball was played into Johnson, who touched it short to Gwen Rauvola, who found Derby for the finish.
A pair of stops by Gray surrounded an attempt for Bridget Merkel that went over the top of Ella Kruntchev as the match hit the half-hour mark.
Norah Heacock had the final chance of the period, but it skipped wide right as the horn sounded.
Dickinson came out of the break looking to push the tempo with Merkel forcing a stop from Kruntchev three minutes in, before Isabelle Bariso lifted the ball over the net.
In the 59th minute Hopkins made it 2-0 when Derby linked up with Rauvola, who delivered a top-shelf strike from well outside the box.
Anna Bitsko asked a question of Kruntchev off the ensuing kickoff; unfortunately, the keeper was up to the task.
Gray recorded a stop in both the 77th and 80th minutes to keep the score where it was.
The group of Ivana Vukas, Heacock and Prisco each took a shot late in the match, but none of them bothered Kruntchev.
