CARLISLE, Pa. – First-year goalie Arden Cook only needed to make three saves on the afternoon, but it was enough to power the Dickinson field hockey team to their first Centennial Conference win of the season, blanking Bryn Mawr College 2-0 at the Biddle Field Complex.
First quarter
The visitors wasted little time entering the Dickinson defensive zone as a corner just 82 seconds in led to a chance for Julia Ward that was denied by Arden Cook.
In the fourth minute, Gillian Rosenstock worked her way into the right side of the attack circle and stuck a cross-cage pass on the stick of Megan McClure, who knocked it past Sydney Wright.
After a pair of Bryn Mawr chances that never tested Cook, Nicole Uebele ripped a shot at goal that was stopped by Wright to end the period.
The hosts were on the attack early, with a corner from Rosenstock leading to blasts by Erin Liggio and Caroline Kirkpatrick, which were turned aside by Wright.
Five minutes later, the duo of Leya Patel and Ward recorded three chances, but once again the Devils defense left Cook unbothered.
With less than two minutes remaining, McClure fired at Wright, who shut the door to end the half.
Third quarter
Two minutes in, Raegan Carty had an attempt knocked off the line by Ward, while Uebele skipped the rebound just wide of the goal.
Cook notched her second save of the game when she stopped Lucie Burgess with 6:10 gone.
A pair of corners inserted by Rosenstock during the 41st minute led to saves for Wright against both Rosenstock and Uebele.
All the pressure for the Red Devils was eventually rewarded as Rosenstock played in another corner, this time to Liggio, who had her shot turned away. However, Rosenstock controlled the rebound, spun and fired right back under Wright (2-0).
Fourth quarter
Bryn Mawr used the opening ten minutes to earn three corners and tally two shots, forcing one save for Cook.
Dickinson added shots from Alexandra Hockwitt, Kirkpatrick and McClure, but none of them solved Wright, leading to the 2-0 final score.
