Elegant, classy, roomy, comfortable — these are some of the words that come to mind when describing the Infiniti QX56 SUV. Following its own sense of style instead of merely copying the current segment leaders, Infiniti created a truly unique SUV for consumers to consider when reaching upscale.
The 2008 model year marks the first major revision of the luxury SUV since its introduction in 2004. Major exterior enhancements to the QX56 include new front and rear fascias, new front fog lights, new roof rack, standard 20-inch chromed aluminum-alloy wheels and heavy-duty P275/60R20 Michelin Cross Terrain tires and two new exterior colors: Lakeshore Slate and Serengeti Sand.
The QX56 is available in two- or four-wheel-drive configurations, offered in one opulent trim level and powered by a sophisticated 5.6L V8 prime mover. Energy is communicated to the pavement through a five-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission with tow/haul mode.

Four-wheel-drive models feature the Infiniti All-Mode 4WD system with 2WD/4HI/4LO models and an electronically controlled part-time transfer case with low gear. A switch on the dashboard controls the two-speed electronic transfer case, allowing easy selection between auto, full-time four-wheel drive and 4LO. Skid plates for the oil pan, transfer case and fuel tank are also standard on 4WD models.
Underway, the large QX56 is silky smooth, extremely mannerable and very responsive. Rivaling many luxury cars, the Infiniti SUV is both sinfully comfortable, yet brutally rugged when required.
A fully boxed ladder type body-on-frame construction serves as the base for the suspension hardware. A double wishbone front suspension with stabilizer bar works with an independent rear double wishbone suspension with stabilizer bar and auto leveling to deliver a stable on-center ride and feel.
Inside the cabin, upscale presentation, versatility, capability and utility join together to give driver and occupants an above average traveling experience. For 2008, comfort and convenience are enhanced with a new third-row power folding seat, standard heated steering wheel on 4WD and new interior colors. Trim and wood designs add a rich aspect to the interior, while the standard Burr-Brown audio system with 9.5-gigabyte Music Box hard drive and compact flash slot for playing MP3 files, Infiniti Navigation system and standard Intelligent Key add a technological twist.
Room and comfort are the watchwords for the QX56, as driver and the passengers in all three rows of seating enjoy hospitable surroundings. Seats in the second and third rows fold flat with the cargo floor for added hauling capabilities. A full-length overhead console mimics commercial aircraft and features separate lighting and ventilation for each passenger.
Up to 12 cupholders are placed throughout the cabin, each capable of holding a large 64 oz bottle. The center console is cavernous with plenty of storage and a large armrest. The QX56 features three 12-volt power outlets on the center console and instrument panel for portable electrical appliances. The standard exterior running board facilitates entry and exit.
Safety features include dual front airbags, front seat-mounted side-impact airbags, roof-mounted curtain supplemental airbags, vehicle immobilizer system, vehicle security system, four-wheel disc brakes with anti-lock, brake assist, electronic brake force distribution, vehicle dynamic control, tire pressure monitor system, fog lights, Xenon high intensity discharge headlamps, automatic headlamps, Bluetooth Hands Free phone system, Intelligent Key, navigation system, power adjustable pedals with memory, rear parking sensors and full-size spare tire.
