UNIVERSITY PARK and CARLISLE, Pa. — Penn State Dickinson Law and School of International Affairs Dean Danielle M. Conway is leaving her role as dean to return to the Penn State Dickinson Law faculty, effective immediately.
Penn State Executive Vice President and Provost Fotis Sotiropoulos will name an interim dean in the coming days; in the meantime, Laura Williams will serve as the acting dean.
“The university remains fully committed to continuing to provide our law students with an excellent legal education at Penn State Dickinson Law at our primary location in Carlisle and at University Park,” said Sotiropoulos.
About Danielle Conway
Conway, who also serves as the Donald J. Farage Professor of Law, joined Penn State as dean of Penn State Dickinson Law in Carlisle on July 1, 2019, from the University of Maine School of Law, where she served as dean and professor of law.

At Penn State, Conway led the reunification of what were Penn State’s two law schools — Penn State Dickinson Law in Carlisle and Penn State Law in University Park — into a single, unified, two-campus law school known as Penn State Dickinson Law.
In 2021, Conway launched the Antiracist Development Institute at Penn State Dickinson Law, which aims to dismantle structures that scaffold systemic racial inequality using a three-pillar approach based on systems design, institutional antiracism and critical pedagogy. She also was instrumental in guiding Penn State Dickinson Law’s development of a civil rights, equal protection and social justice certificate program.
A leading expert in procurement law, entrepreneurship and intellectual property law, Conway served for 14 years on the faculty of the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa, William S. Richardson School of Law before joining the University of Maine. She also has served as a full-time lecturer at Georgetown University Law Center and as a member of the faculty of the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law.
In 2016, she retired from the U.S. Army after 27 years of combined active, reserve and National Guard service. She has authored or edited six books and casebooks, as well as numerous book chapters, articles and essays.
Conway is the current president of the Association of American Law Schools and has been a member of the American Law Institute since 2004.
Conway received bachelor of science degrees in finance and international business from New York University Stern School of Business; a juris doctor degree, cum laude, from Howard University School of Law; and a master of laws degree in government procurement law and environmental law from George Washington University Law School.
