HARRISBURG — The Hartford Yard Goats knocked off the Harrisburg Senators 10-4 in the series opener Monday night at FNB Field. Yadiel Hernandez and Jake Lowery each homered in the loss as the teams combined for five home runs.
Hartford struck for two-runs in the second against Senators starter Jaron Long. Brian Mundell put the Yard Goats on the board with a solo home run and later in the frame, Wes Rogers hit a sacrifice fly.
The Senators cut the lead in half with a run in the third off Hartford starter Ryan Castellani. Osvaldo Abreu walked to start the inning and one batter later Daniel Johnson knocked an RBI triple to put the Senators on the board.
The Yard Goats broke the game open in a ten-batter, six-run sixth to go up 8-1. With a runner at first and two outs, the Yard Goats recorded six consecutive hits to plate all six runs, highlighted by an RBI triple by Castellani and a two-run home run by Garrett Hampson.
Long (0-1) took the loss after surrendering eight runs on 11 hits in four innings.
Castellani (1-0) picked up the win after throwing five innings of one run ball.
Hartford added on in the seventh when Brendan Rodgers hit a two-run home run to left.
With the Senators down 10-1 in the bottom of the seventh, Yadiel Hernandez belted a three-run home run to left field, his third of the season.
Jake Lowery cut into the lead farther in the eighth with a two-run home run to left for his second of the season.
That would be as close as the Senators would get as they fell 10-6.
Hernandez led the Senators offense with three hits and three RBI.
