HARRISBURG — Tres Barrera hit a run-scoring double in the sixth inning, leading the Harrisburg Senators to a 2-1 win over the Trenton Thunder in the first game of a doubleheader on Monday. The loss snapped a five-game winning streak for the Thunder.
The double by Barrera, part of a two-run inning, tied the game 1-1 before Austin Davidson hit an RBI double later in the inning.
In the top of the first, Trenton grabbed the lead on a single by Zack Zehner that scored Ben Ruta.
Harrisburg right-hander Sterling Sharp (4-2) picked up a quality start and the win after allowing one run on just four hits over six innings. Opposing starter Rony Garcia (1-2) took the tough loss in the Eastern League game after giving up two runs and five hits over 5 2/3 innings.
With the win, Harrisburg improved to 3-1 against Trenton this season.
Ward's single leads Harrisburg to win
HARRISBURG — Drew Ward hit a two-run single in the third inning, leading the Harrisburg Senators to a 4-1 win over the Trenton Thunder in the second game of a doubleheader on Monday.
The single by Ward scored Bryan Mejia and Luis Garcia to give the Senators a 2-1 lead.
The Senators added to their lead in the sixth when Rhett Wiseman hit a two-run home run.
Steven Fuentes (1-0) got the win with 2 1/3 innings of scoreless, two-hit relief while Trenton starter Brody Koerner (0-2) took the loss in the Eastern League game.
The Senators swept both games of the doubleheader after winning the first game 2-1. Harrisburg improved to 4-1 against Trenton this season.
