HERSHEY — The Hershey Bears snapped a three-game skid with a 3-0 win over the Utica Comets at Giant Center on Saturday night.
A night after entering the game in relief, Pheonix Copley turned aside all 24 shots he faced for his second clean sheet of the season.
After a scoreless opening period which saw the Chocolate and White lead in shots 16-10, Hershey broke the scoring in the second period.
Seconds following a neutral zone face-off, the Bears transitioned into the offensive end. Tyler Graovac fed the trailer, Aaron Ness, who snapped a quick shot past Thatcher Demko at 7:36 for his third goal of the season.
Hershey added one more before the period expired to lead 2-0 after 40 minutes. Seconds after a bench minor penalty assessed to Hershey expired, Chris Bourque, who served the minor, joined a 2-on-1 rush with Dustin Gazley. Gazley fed Bourque a crisp pass across the low slot for an easy tap in at 14:52.
The Bears’ penalty kill unit finished the night a perfect 6-for-6 against the fourth ranked power play in the AHL.
At 14:07 of the third period, the Bears added an insurance tally to gain a 3-0 lead. After Demko lost his stick, Anthony Peluso sent a pass near the low-slot for an open Zach Sill, who beat Demko low to the ice for his fifth tally of the season.
The Bears improved to 24-27-4-4.
The Hershey Bears conclude a three-games-in-as-many-nights stretch Sunday at 5 in their 12th and final meeting against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.
