Carlisle was knocked out of the first round of the District 3 Class 3A playoffs Wednesday, in a continuation of a game that was suspended by rain the prior night.
Central York cruised to a 14-4 home win over the No. 11 Thundering Herd (9-9), the Panthers' first playoff win in program history.
"After a slow start last night I asked the girls to come out with some energy and spunk going into the rest of the game today," Carlisle head coach Ally Brehm told The Sentinel via email after the game. "Lots of high pressure defense and physical play was the cause of turnovers for us as we tried to transition the ball onto attack, and it kept us from being able to run an effective offense. Even though we were not able to find the back of the net tonight like we are capable of, they did what I asked and played with tons of energy to finish out the game and the season."
Grace Lippert scored twice and Emmerson Zinn had a pair of assists in the loss. Abby McFerren beat Sydney Young five times for No. 6 CY (12-5), which heads to No. 3 Exeter Twp. in Thursday's quarterfinals.
- No. 12 Trinity was also knocked out in its opener, falling 24-13 to No. 5 Lampeter-Strasburg in the Class 3A first round. Madi Tare recorded her 100th goal of the season, according to the Shamrocks' (8-9) Twitter account. She finished with eight on the night, adding a pair of assists as well. The Shamrocks trailed 11-7 at halftime but couldn't close the gap. Kelsey Kimmel's 12 goals bested Tare and the Shamrocks, setting L-S up against No. 4 Wyomissing on Thursday.
