Molly Snyder In My Words

Never in my time of running cross country for Mechanicsburg did I think we would make states as a team.

This weekend really proved me wrong. Going into the meet we knew that we had a chance at going to states, but we knew that it was going to be just barely. For District 3 Class 3A, the Top 4 teams make it to the state meet. We thought that we were going to states, we were going to be that No. 4 team.

We never even thought about taking second and yet we did. Everyone performed better than what we needed and that’s what got us the runner-up title. Not only did we take second, but we were only five points from a district title. In cross country, five points can mean two places. And that is all that it was, if we were to have one girl cross in front of the two girls in front of her, we would have won the district. Not only do we get to say that we are state qualifiers, but we can say that we are history in the making.

The Mechanicsburg girls cross country team for the 2019 season made history. We were the first girls cross country team to qualify for the state meet at Hershey. I can now say that I was not only there, but was part of the team that made Mechanicsburg history.

Congratulations to all runners on their seasons and watch out for Mechanicsburg next weekend at Hershey!
