It’s sad to say that Thursday was the last high school match for the seniors, but we went out fighting, finishing our team season with a loss to Red Land.
Despite our team record not being what we had hoped for, the state tournament is looking bright for some of our wrestlers and we are anxious for it to begin. Sectionals is hosted at Mechanicsburg, so we are looking forward to putting on a show for our home crowd.
The last couple months have been packed full of hard work and conditioning, so we are taking it back a notch during this three week break until sectionals to focus on technique, as well as enjoying the rest of the season. Playing games like handball and stance ball, as well as the possibility of a movie night, give us the much needed rest time so we are feeling 100 percent going into the state tournament.
It’s crucial that the time we are given off due to not qualifying for team districts is utilized fully. While we can rest and have some fun, it’s crucial that we are still in the wrestling room every day and putting in extra workouts whether it’s running, wrestling or light lifting. We can still play games and enjoy our break, but I know from experience that it’ll come back to bite you when you step on the scale and see that you’re 10 pounds overweight.
In all, I’m nervous and excited for these three weeks to fly by and for the tournament to start.
