Tyler Schwarzman In My Words

Nine games down, one to go — in the regular season that is.

After a loss to Bishop McDevitt, the Mechanicsburg Wildcats will be playing next Friday for much more than just win No. 6. A win next week would give us our first winning season and playoff spot for the first time in quite some time — something we started working for in the summertime.

And we should have every reason to be highly motivated. Coming off of a night that was filled with struggles to hold on to the football, there were still a lot of positives.

Our defense was outstanding against an explosive offense. All around, we fought and competed until the end of the game, even despite some personnel changes late in the game.

So while the score did not end up in our favor this past Friday, the true signs of a high quality team coming together late in the season are there.

I wanted to give a quick shoutout to the Bishop McDevitt players for their sportsmanship in the line and after the game while walking back to the locker room. By far the best I have witnessed from an opposing team all year. Best of luck to them for the remainder of the season.

Back to us, however, and I think our entire team knows the expectation coming in to this final week of practice. It is going to be filled with a lot of intense focus, hard work and heart. With players returning and getting us back to full throttle, we should be in good shape to become the heroes of our own story next Friday night.

We cannot, and we will not, let our loss last week against McDevitt define us. On senior night against Lower Dauphin, however, we will hope to write a different story and cap off an already incredible regular season with an exclamation point.
