In My Words Natalie Sassano

This past week, the Cedar Cliff girls basketball team spent time giving back to the community.

At the beginning of the season, each team member is assigned a fourth grade student at Highland Elementary as a Pen Pal. Throughout the season, we exchanged several letters and were able to learn more about our Pen Pal’s. This past Thursday, we had the opportunity to meet our Pen Pal’s, enjoy lunch with them and play games with them at recess. As a team, we love this activity because it helps us build relationships with younger students.

We also participated in another community service event this week. On Saturday morning, my teammates and coaches volunteered at the Common Ground Café in Harrisburg. The Common Ground Café is a restaurant-style no-cost breakfast hosted by a local church. I realized that the simple acts of serving a breakfast, having a conversation and enjoying crafts with the children was deeply rewarding. At the breakfast, we served the community, had many laughs with our customers and realized that there is always “a common ground.”

I think I can speak for all of my teammates and coaches that this was a very rewarding week.

This week we will face Susquehanna Township (Wednesday) and Bishop McDevitt (Friday) at home.

Let’s go Colts!
