This past week has been unbelievable in my book.
Our first game was against State College. We knew we would have to come out of the gates hard because they’re always executing the small things. We did end up winning 6-3, which started our amusing week!
The second team we faced was Carlisle. We won 18-2 and that game really brought our team together. Winning by that much is always a good feeling and shutting it down is what our team does best. We weren’t necessarily rowdy that game, but we were in it and focused.
Lastly, we faced Northern. The game we wanted most. I remember sitting on the bus and just hearing how pumped everyone was to face them. We know the girls personally and always love some friendly competition. We did end the game 11-16, a loss. Even though we lost, I am so proud of my team. We were down 6-0 and we didn’t give up. We were in it to win it! We definitely were shocked on how well they did hit the ball, but at the end of it all, we kept our heads up, stayed as a team, supported each other and had fun.
I think I speak for everyone on my team, including Coach McCoy, when I say this: we want to face them again. But as the season goes on, you should expect to see us grow as a team and really find OUR way. We definitely capitalize on P.R.I.D.E., which stands for Pride Respect Integrity Determination and Effort. We remind each other that we need to hold each other and ourselves accountable.
Another thing we have started to do this week was pray. Before games, we all get into a huddle and Avery Winchell leads the prayer and we follow. It does help our team connect and get in the right mindset before playing. Overall, our team is hyped and ready to face any competition. We’re not taking anyone lightly and we will press the gas until Coach tells us to ease off. You will be hearing the name Cedar Cliff for a very long time and we’re here to stay!
