Devon Chenot In My Words

This week was the Mid-Penn Conference Championship meet. We took a team that I thought could do very well. I think we did much better than any of us anticipated. We had best times in almost every event. Everyone was ready, and I think individually, we all performed better than we had all season.

The most anticipated races of the meet for me were the 200 freestyle relay on Friday and the 400 freestyle relay on Saturday. Like last year, we were seeded as underdogs in both of these races. We were all out to prove ourselves once again. In the 200 freestyle relay, Isaiah led off very strong and had us up at the front with everyone else. He handed the race over to our second swimmer, Gary Blacksmith. Gary had one of the best swims of the weekend and set a personal best. He gave the race over to Nolan who showed he has what it takes to swim with the big boys even if he is a freshman.

Our middle two swimmers kept us in that race and I was proud of them for their swims. Nolan gave me a good chance to go get the two teams we were trailing. As I finished, I saw that we finished third, but with a time of 1:27.39, a new school record.

The 400 freestyle relay was a much different race. Again, Isaiah had us out in front. He gave the race to Nolan who again held tough and finished for Caleb Padgett to go in. Caleb gave us a great swim and had a personal best. I recognized before I went in that we had a good chance to get second, one place better than last year. When I finished, I looked up and not only were we second, but we had a time of 3:13.40, another school record by more than a second.

I was very proud of our team and I think we have a lot left as we move toward districts.
