Colin Boyd In My Words

Over the last couple years it has truly been the greatest experience leading the Big Spring Student Section. My love for sports and my school were able to be shown on a nightly basis throughout the fall and winter nights. With that said, I owe a few “thank you” statements to people who have come with me along the way.

First off, a student section is great when there are a lot of passionate people there with you. The other night, the Big Spring boys basketball team played their final home game against Boiling Springs. By the time the ball was tipped we counted over 100 students in the section. To put it in perspective, that is an eighth of our school all there to support and have fun. With the help of Zach Hasco and Jaime Yaukey, we made sure everyone knew about the theme of tutus and bandanas ahead of time and we had extras there in case someone forgot theirs.

Also, I have to appreciate the community and administrators who are constantly there to support us as a whole. Game in and game out we have parents of players come up to us and say how they love that we are always into the game and supporting. Knowing this and how much the players have told me they like hearing us, we certainly have no plans to quiet down.

In the end I hope the culture at Big Spring is changed in someway because of my years at this great school. Seeing all the kids in elementary school clap along with the student section gives me a lot of hope for the future.
