Two more. This week, CV swimming and diving begins its final week of the regular season with two dual meets. The season has flown by; it seems like just yesterday we gathered on the pool deck for our first practice. We’ve made it this far with the help of our coaches, our teammates, our own determination and our support systems.
There are any number of jokes about how boring watching a swim meet can be. Nevertheless, when we look to the stands they are filled with parents, grandparents, siblings and friends who come to meets to support us — even when we travel an hour or more away. These fans inspire us with their love and support, and cheers as they urge us on, enthusiastically waving their pom-poms.
My support system also includes my fellow captains: Brooke Washburn, Jena Dehoff, Wade Turlington, Jorden McVeagh and Logan Skiles. I’ve known these captains for my entire CV swimming and experience and beyond. Each of us brings unique strengths and skills to our position as captain. We’ve travelled and competed together, organized events, managed the team and distributed uniforms and encouraged our team for the past several months. We are a team within the team.
