This is going to be sappy.
It was a great season for our girls. I’m sad that we couldn’t get any further in the playoffs than last year, but everyone has to lose at some point. It was hard watching us lose yesterday against Northwestern Lehigh. Everything in my body seemed to stop when I saw the overtime goal go in. I started crying when I was walking over to shake hands with the other team. The reason I started crying? I don’t even think it’s that we lost or the way we lost we lost.
It instantaneously hit me that from now on I’m not going to see my teammates together like I have for four years. Every playoff game was scary for me because I never knew if there would be another practice or game to be around these girls. My high school soccer career is over (I mean, it’s been over for a year now, but you know what I mean). Those are memories that are going to last forever. And even if I can’t remember every funny thing that was said or did, at least I know I enjoyed it in the moment with laughter and a smile on my face.
Our banquet is Sunday night. By the time this is published, Coach Brookens will have received a gift of a sweatshirt that says “B’s the name, birding’s the game. State law!” Abby, Katie and I have been antsy for this moment for a week. He’s going to love it.
For a second time, Honors Precalculus student Julia Fulton who just got a 100% on her last test thought that 40 minutes + 8 minutes = 63 minutes.
I want to thank The Sentinel for asking me to write these articles, and for you, the reader, for reading them. For some reason you decided to keep reading my work up until this ending moment. Thank you. It was a good run.
