A key member of the Mechanicsburg football team will be transferring to Bishop McDevitt High School in Harrisburg for his senior year.
Joseph Bruno changed his Twitter bio to indicate he will be at Bishop McDevitt next year. The move is due to a change in his living arrangement he said in a direct message on Twitter.
Bruno, listed at 6-foot, 200 pounds as a junior, led Mechnicsburg (2-8) with 605 yards rushing on 85 carries last fall, with eight total touchdowns. He added 201 yards receiving on 15 receptions and also returned punts and kickoffs. He was an All-Sentinel honorable mention selection at running back.
According to Bruno’s Twitter feed, he has offers to play college football at Fordham, Holy Cross, Robert Morris, Army, and Air Force.
Bruno said his father is getting a place to live in Maryland because of work and will not be at his house in Mechanicsburg as often.
So Bruno said he will instead be living with his mother, who lives near Bishop McDevitt.
He said he does not yet know what his role will be with Bishop McDevitt’s football team next year. The Crusaders finished 13-2 in 2018, falling 48-7 to eventual state champion Erie Cathedral Prep in the Class 4A state semifinals.
“Coach (Jeff) Weachter will figure that one out, but speed kills, (so I) could be put anywhere on the field,” he said in a Twitter message.
Bruno put that speed on display this spring during the high school track and field season. The junior placed fifth in Class 3A at states in the 100-meter dash in 11.02 seconds, and seventh in the 200-meter dash in 21.97.
