Trinity’s Patrick Walker, right, was held to just two points Saturday, but he's been capable of carrying the team this season.

3-1 Trinity (25-3) vs. 12-3 Philadelphia Bishop McDevitt (21-7)

Class 3A Semifinals: Tuesday, at Reading HS, 7:30 p.m.

Next round: Saturday, vs. winner of 7-1 Lincoln Park (24-4)/10-1 Sharon (24-4)

Scouting report: The Lancers are a junior-dominant squad making a rapid rise in recent years. Coming off Saturday’s 60-57 win over five-time defending state champ Neumann-Goretti — no, this isn’t an upset, McDevitt beat N-G earlier this year — this is a team that is riding high. Philadelphia Catholic League First-Team pick Jamil Manigo had 20 points against the Saints, shooting 9-of-11 from the field and making the game-winning free throws with 32 seconds left, and Robert Smith added 17.

The 6-foot-3 forward Manigo averages around 15 points as the Royal Lancers’ leading scorer, according to PAPrepLive.com’s Andrew Robinson. And 6-foot guard Smith is good for around 13 a game.

The rest of the starting five includes guards Seneca Willoughby (6-1 sr.), Glenn Smith and Ahmir Harris (5-11). McDevitt allows around 50 points per game, leading the Philadelphia Catholic League in ppg allowed.

Factual: In two seasons, the Lancers have gone from four wins, to 13-11 and the state quarterfinals, to 21-7 and their first ever state semifinal appearance. ... The Lancers have beaten two other state semifinalists this season, 4A’s Bonner-Prendie and 1A’s Sankofa Freedom.
