Gavin Pritchard nearly had a double-double as Big Spring beat Everett 64-59 in the first round of the Big Spring Holiday Classic Tournament.
The sophomore went for 11 points and nine rebounds Friday night, one of four Bulldogs to reach double-digit points. Nick Black joined him with 16 points, adding six boards and six assists as well.
The win pits Big Spring against Mid-Penn Colonial foe James Buchanan for the second time in as many years, meaning the squads will face off once again three times in the season. The Rockets beat Biglerville 62-52 in Friday afternoon's other game.
"Great effort from our guys tonight," Bulldogs coach Jason Creek texted The Sentinel. "We found a way to win and that's what matters. We have plenty to work on but our dogs will fight. Now we need to prepare for a scrappy JB team tomorrow that played very well today."
Peyton Bechtold led all scorers with 22 points, connecting on three 3-pointers. Black had three treys as well. Trevor Perry added 13 points.
- Dylan Buzalka scored 14 points, but Cumberland Valley dropped its game with Seneca Valley 61-52 in the Shady Side Academy Tournament championship game.
- Three Lions reached double figures in Camp Hill's 61-59 win over York Country Day in the Cedar Crest Holiday Tournament consolation game. Connor Trumpy led the way with 16, followed by Jake Perry (15) and Will Ketterer (14).
- Carter Van Scyoc had a game-high 24 points to lead Shippensburg to a 47-44 wi over Susquehanna Twp. in the Shippensburg Holiday Tournament championship. Alaric Hickman had three 3s and finished with 11 points.
- Gerald Jarmon III finished with 23 points, Justin Gause 13 as Cedar Cliff disposed of East Pensboro 65-57 in the first round of the East Pennsboro Lions Club Holiday Tournament. The Colts will face Greencastle-Antrim in Saturday's title game, with Donegal-East Pennsboro the consolation game at 6 p.m.
