Red Land East Pennsboro

Red Land’s Luke Wagner gives a thumbs up after closing out the seventh inning of the game against East Pennsboro for the win, 1-0, in the Mid-Penn Championship held Wednesday night at Northern High School.

  • Red Land is 2-for-2 to start its championship hunt. The Mid-Penn Commonwealth champs won the Mid-Penn Conference championship with a 1-0 win over the Capital's East Pennsboro on Wednesday night at Northern High School. A pitchers' duel broke out immediately, with Luke Wagner (7 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 7 K) doing just enough to edge Michael Morales (6.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 8 K). Jaden Henline grounded into a fielder's choice at first base to score Benny Montgomery in the top of the seventh, proving the difference in a game that featured just five base knocks. Alejandro Escalet was 2-for-3 for the Panthers, and Cole Wagner (1-for-2) had the only extra-base hit of the game — a double.
  • The Panthers got to the title game with a 3-1 win over Waynesboro earlier in the day thanks to a 2-for-3, three-RBI performance from Nick Embleton that included a homer and double. He also fanned eight during 6.1 innings of work. The Patriots popped Palmyra 8-1 in the other semi as Luke Wagner (3-for-4) homered with two stolen bases, two RBIs and two runs.
