Dear Editor:

Christmas time for me is a special time of the year, a time for family, celebration and sharing my good fortunes. This year was another year for sharing years and celebration. However, this year I stopped to pause and reflect how lucky I was to be celebrating with my family at my home.

This pause to be thankful occurred because this year I was able to volunteer at one of the community churches that partners with Community Cares homeless overnight shelter program. This program utilizes the space provided by community churches to shelter homeless residents overnight.

One of the special things that make community programs work are the volunteers that give up their time with family and friends to help others every night 365 day a year two volunteers, one for the men’s and one for the woman’s shelter give up their family time and sleep at a shelter as a Cares. shelter manager. Theses volunteers are what make the shelter program work. Without them, the homeless, men, woman and children would not have a place to spend the night and would most likely be on the street.

So tonight when I curl up on my queen size bed and pillows I will think of these volunteers and say to each and every one, thank you for your time, thank you for your compassion and thank you for helping the homeless
