As a member of the Carlisle Area School District Board, I’d like to thank the organizations, members of the public, area businesses, and churches for providing students in the greater Carlisle area with backpacks, supplies, shoes, and other resources.
I witnessed the generosity of the community at the Fill-the-Bus event at Walmart and saw how many volunteers were willing to help at the Carlisle 4 Kids event at the Carlisle Expo in serving nearly 850 children. You could see on the faces of the children and their family members how appreciated the community’s efforts were.
Thank you, United Way and Project Share, for both events and thank you to the many volunteers that engaged with the children. Not only did the children get school supplies, there were physical therapists to check backpack straps, a school nurse to check immunizations, a service club providing hot dogs and other snacks, and many other agencies helping families learn more about their services.

I also want to thank Hope Station for their Annual Back to School Bash. When you get to see first-hand in a student’s eyes that they get to choose an age appropriate backpack with supplies, and that they can do so in an enjoyable manner, it reinforces why I love living in this community. More than 150 children were served by Hope Station. Thanks Hope Station, the other community organizations, and Carlisle Area School District principals and administrators for helping this event be so successful.
We are a community that values children and these events show how organizations work together to make sure that all children have an opportunity to be healthy, safe, and become productive citizens. Again, many thanks for helping students in the Carlisle Area School District and surrounding districts get a good start to the 2019-2020 school year.
