Dear Editor:

Recently, President Trump declared that nearly 2 million acres of Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments are open for development by his billionaire buddies.

This action is illegal, but Trump thinks he is above the law; that is, King of U.S.A.! The Secretary of Interior, Ryan Zinke, is proposing to shrink both the Cascade Siskiyou, and Gold Butte National Monuments. The Conservation Council for Hawaii fears that the Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument is also slated for shrinkage or elimination.

Sadly, there are multiple attacks by the GOP in Congress to develop our National Monuments. H.R. 4558 legislates that the Grand Staircase-Escalante would be open for mining or oil drilling, and H.R. 3990 states that National Monuments would be drastically reduced in size.

Donations are needed for the Natural Resources Defense Council to bring a lawsuit against Trump's latest illegal action. NRDC, 1152 15th Street NW, Suite 300, Washington, DC 20005.
