• Funeral services for Melvin E. "Bucky" Arnold Sr., 74, of Enola, will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in Myers Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg.
    He died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 1997 at his home.
    Retired from W. S. Miller Construction, he was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Enola, Hampden Fire Company and Fire Police, Mechanicsburg and Enola sportsmen's clubs, and the National Rifle Association.
    He was the widower of Alice L. Arnold and Evelyn M. Arnold.
    He is survived by a son, Melvin E. Jr. of Enola; two daughters, Patricia A. Singer of Enola and Susan A. Kulp of Lewisberry; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
    The Rev. Simon A. Lehman Jr. will officiate at Saturday's services. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. in the funeral home.
    Burial will be in Stone Church Cemetery, Enola.
  • Norman Hockenberry, 69, of 50 Lonesome Road, Newville, died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 1997 in Carlisle Hospital.

  • Funeral services for John H. Fahnestock Jr., 49, of 109 Yates St., Mt. Holly Springs, will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in Gibson-Hollinger Funeral Home, 501 N. Baltimore Ave., Mt. Holly Springs.
    He died Monday, Dec. 8, 1997 while hunting near Coudersport.
    He was born Oct. 17, 1948 in Carlisle to John H. Fahnestock Sr. of Mt. Holly Springs and the late Kathryn Crawford Fahnestock.
    Mr. Fahnestock was a technician for G.E. Appliance Service for 23 years, where he received the G.E. Hall of Fame Award for outstanding appliance technician for the last six years.
    A graduate of Carlisle High School with the class of 1966, he was a member of Mt. Holly Springs United Methodist Church and coached Little League in Mt. Holly Springs for many years.
    He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War, receiving the Air Force Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service.
    He was a member of the Fish and Game Association, National Rifle Association, and VFW Post 7343.
    In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Susan Ruth Fahnestock; a daughter, Emily S. Fahnestock at home; a brother, Jerry A. Fahnestock of Mt. Holly Springs; two nephews; and one niece.
    The Rev. Bradley Knepp and the Rev. J. Kenneth Barner will officiate at Saturday's services. Interment will be in Mt. Holly Springs Cemetery.
