Though it had taken years for a restaurant to take over the former Bonanza restaurant building on Walnut Bottom Road in South Middleton Township, it took only months for another restaurant to show interest after a second vacancy on the property.
A fire destroyed the Bonanza building in October 2013, and the developer of Roadhouse Steak and Seafood eventually showed interested in the location with a goal to open a new restaurant late in 2017.
However, the restaurant didn’t open until March 2018 because of a number of obstacles, and within a few months the restaurant closed.
Late last year, Hoss’s Steak and Sea House announced it signed a lease to take over the property in the 900 block of Walnut Bottom Road.
The deal had been in the works for a few months, and the goal at the time was to have the restaurant open by the beginning of February this year.
Where it stands
South Middleton Township Supervisor Tom Faley said that, according to the township codes officer and contractor for the site, construction is ongoing at the restaurant.
Hoss’s is reportedly changing out the plumbing, which will need inspection by the township once it is complete, Faley said.
If everything goes according to plan, the new restaurant could be open by the end of March, he said.
The new restaurant will be the new location for the current Hoss’s on the Harrisburg Pike in Middlesex Township. The staff there will relocate to the Walnut Bottom address.
