Each week, The Sentinel publishes stories we receive to prompts in Kids World and on www.cumberlink.com. This week’s Kids Speak Out prompt was “If I could be any animal, I would be ...”

“If I could be any animal, I would be a cat. One, so I could sleep more. Two, so I wouldn’t have to go to school. And three, I wouldn’t have to wake up so early. And four, I could scratch anybody and not get in trouble. And that’s why I want to be a cat.”

“If I could be any animal, I would be a puppy because they are cute and I would get a lot of attention. I would eat many treats.”

“If I could be any animal I would be a dolphin. I would be a dolphin because I love to swim and dolphins swim all the time. Also dolphins can explore the ocean which sounds really fun. Dolphins are friendly and kind animals, so people like to be around them. Dolphins can swim pretty fast so they can get where they want to go quickly. To be a dolphin would be so different from people.”

“If I could be any animal, I would be a dog. I would jump on the table and be a bad dog. I would eat food off the table and let strangers in the house and nobody could stop me. I would like being a dog because I could chase cats and get petted.”

Hunter B., 8

“If I could be any animal, I would be a snake, but not any snake ... a circus snake. I would do cool magic tricks and let people feel my skin. I would eat mice and scare children.”

Dahlia Dodson, 9

“If I could be any animal I would be a Komodo Dragon. They’re the world’s largest lizard, and they’re deadly. As a human we’re not rare, but Komodo Dragons are only found on five Indonesia Islands. I want to be an animal that’s hard to find. Where Komodo Dragons live it is hot, where I live it is hot and cold. I love hot weather. The winter is just too cold. Humans and Komodo Dragons are extremely different. Komodo Dragons have bacteria that transfers to their prey. I would love to have prey scared of me, and they won’t come near me.”

“If I could be any animal, I would be a lion so I could blend in and scratch and eat my prey like zebra, tiger, monkey, gazelle and fish. My predator would be a cheetah, giraffe or poachers. I would live in the safari and rule. I would have lion cubs and raise them to be prince and princesses. My roar could scare away predators.”
