Each week, The Sentinel publishes stories we receive to prompts in Kids World and on www.cumberlink.com. This week’s Kids Speak Out prompt was “I heard movement in the bushes, and it ended up being a ...”

“I heard movement in the bushes, and it ended up being an alien. The alien said something very carefully, but I didn’t understand him. I went to my house and brought him inside. Then I got a piece of paper and a pencil and told him to write it down. The alien wrote on the paper, ‘I want candy.’ I said, ‘OK, but you will have to wait until Thursday.’ On Thursday, we went trick-or-treating.”

“I heard movement in the bushes, and it ended up being a bear! It had sharp claws, big teeth. It was really big. It looked like it just took a long sleep. But it looked hungry. Then it went back in the bushes. I think it was sleeping.”

“I heard movement in the bushes, and it ended up being a ghost. I was with my best friend and we ran. We heard a scary noise, wwhooooosh! The ghost followed us. It followed us all the way home, scaring us constantly. We got mad! I yelled, ‘Stop. Go away.’ But he explained it all—he didn’t have any friends. He just wanted to have a friend.”

“I heard movement in the bushes, and it ended up being a bunny. It was so cute and cuddly. It had fluffy fur. His fur had a mix of brown, gray and a little white. I gave him a carrot, and he was so happy, and I was happy.”

“I heard movement in the bushes, and it ended up being a gray blob. It was weird. I saw it and instantly ran away. A few hours later, I looked around the corner, and it was still there. I went up to it, and it was actually kind of cute. I picked up and brought it inside. I brought it a cage and kept it. Now it is my pet.”

“I heard movement in the bushes, and it ended up being a turtle. I went and picked it up. I put it in a cage and gave it water and food. I will also give it time to walk around and explore. I would clean its tank every week, and I would put clean food and water. I would send it back to the woods.”
