As of noon Friday, traffic was flowing smoothly again on Interstate 81 near Carlisle, according to the PennDOT 511PA trafic information website.

Posted earlier on Cumberlink: There was stop-and-go traffic south of Carlisle on Interstate 81 north on Friday morning, according to PennDOT's 511PA traffic information website.

As of 8:30 a.m., traffic was delayed from near Exit 37/ Route 233 to Exit 48/ Route 74. There was also stop-and-go traffic on other roads in and around Carlisle, especially Route 11 in the Carlisle area.

The map did not provide the reason for the delay, but 511PA said on Twitter that there was roadwork on Interstate 81 north between mile marker 49 and mile marker 51. The roadwork had been "cleared" as of 8:29 a.m.

PennDOT had previously announced plans for construction this weekend on the northbound lanes of Interstate 81 between mile marker 50 and the Middlesex/New Kingstown exits in Middlesex Township. The work was planned for between 8 p.m. Friday and 6 a.m. Monday. It involves concrete patching as part of a larger road base replacement, asphalt milling and resurfacing project on a 10.5-mile section of I-81.
