The southbound lanes of Interstate 81 remained shut down near Chambersburg during the Thursday morning commute after a tractor-trailer truck spilled more than 26,000 pounds of lumber over the road.

The Franklin Fire Company said on Facebook that at 1:04 a.m. a truck carrying the lumber was involved in a crash near mile marker 14 and lost its entire load. Lumber was scattered through both southbound lanes, one northbound lane, and the median.

There were no injuries and no other vehicles were involved, the fire company said.

It warned that Interstate 81 southbound would be closed in the area for "an extended period of time."

According to a 7:20 a.m. from PennDOT's 511PA website, all southbound lanes remained closed from Exit 14 (Route 316/Wayne Avenue) to Exit 10 (Route 914).
