It was announced that Penn State head football coach Joe Paterno is scheduled to speak at a luncheon at the Embers Restaurant on March 31. At the time, Paterno was division crusade vice chairman for the American Cancer Society. His speech was to follow breakfast in Dauphin County and would be followed by an evening meeting in York County.

The district planned to fund the program through fees and support from local agencies.
