People walk into the North Middleton Township precinct at North Middleton Fire Co. #1 Tuesday morning.

Jean Foschi will become the county’s next Democratic county commissioner, having edged out fellow Democratic nominee Michael Fedor by 195 votes, according to early returns from the county.

Incumbent Republican commissioners Vince DiFilippo and Gary Eichelberger also secured re-election, garnering 28 and 29 percent of the total votes cast, respectively, versus the 21.5 percent of the vote received by Foschi and Fedor.

Under the state’s code on county governance, the top three vote-getters out of the four nominees are seated as commissioners, creating a board of two majority-party and one minority-party members.

The Democratic side was open this year, with current Democratic commissioner Jim Hertzler retiring at the end of his term.
