Cumberland County Wednesday afternoon announced that the Sunoco public meeting scheduled for Thursday morning has been canceled after other parties involved in the discussion decided to drop out.
The meeting had been scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday at the courthouse. The commissioners said they canceled the meeting after other parties involved informed them they would not be in attendance.
Those other parties include state lawmakers who represent the county, representatives of the Public Utility Commission and representatives of Energy Transfer Partners (Sunoco Pipeline).
The commissioners said they have not yet received an explanation for why the others could not attend the meeting, which had been rescheduled for Thursday after a previous postponement.
Commissioners had wanted to meet officials to discuss avenues to allow concerned county residents to ask questions regarding the operations of the pipeline, which is currently in operation. The commissioners said they also wanted to give Energy Transfer Partners a chance to detail all precautions they are taking to ensure a safe operation.
The commissioners have also been seeking a policy change by the PUC that would require Energy Transfer Partners to hold period public outreach meetings in Cumberland County and elsewhere.
