Two Perry County residents were injured Aug. 31 after the motorcycle they were riding collided with a passenger vehicle on US 22/322 east near the Midway on-ramp in Buffalo Township.

State Police in Newport said James S. Stemler, 58, of Liverpool, and Sue E. Shotzberger, 57, of Duncannon, were transported by ambulance to Holy Spirit Hospital after the 10:44 p.m. crash.

The other driver, Jordan D. Ryan, 25 of Lothian, Maryland, was wearing a seat belt and was not hurt.

Police say Stemler was driving a 1995 Harley-Davidson motorcycle east on the highway in the right hand travel lane. As Stemler was trying to move the vehicle into the left hand travel lane, it struck a 2000 Volkswagen Jetta causing the motorcycle to enter into an uncontrolled skid back into the right travel lane, according to reports.

It is believed that Stemler, who was not wearing a helmet, may have suffered a minor injury.

Shotzberger, a passenger on the motorcycle, was wearing a helmet and may have suffered a serious injury. Hospital public relations had no information on either patient.

The motorcycle had to be towed from the scene while the Jetta could be driven. State Police were assisted by the Newport Fire Company and fire police and by the Newport Ambulance League.
