Richard A. Coverdale, 31, of La Belle, Florida, was charged Nov. 28 with simple assault and harassment, after an argument outside Sunoco/Burger King on Allen Road at 11:25 a.m. Nov. 15. Police said there was a verbal argument between two commercial truck drivers over parking at the location. Police said Coverdale struck the victim several times and pulled him to the ground, before the fight was broken up by other customers in the parking lot. The victim was injured, and Coverdale fled before police arrived. Video surveillance led to his identification, and police issued a summons for Coverdale to appear in court on the charges.
North Middleton Township Police (717-243-7910)
David Long, 80, of New Cumberland, was charged with simple assault and harassment after a domestic incident in the 100 block of Brookwood Drive about 6 p.m. Nov. 28. Police received a report of a fall victim and said they found that Long had a physical altercation with the victim, grabbing her around the neck, punching her and pushing her to the floor. The woman was taken to UPMC Pinnacle Carlisle for further evaluation. Long was arrested and remains in Cumberland County Prison on $5,000 bail.
Upper Allen Township Police (717-795-2445)
Brian Thomas Vonnieda, 34, of Mechanicsburg, was charged with felony strangulation, misdemeanor simple assault and summary harassment after a domestic incident about 3 a.m. Nov. 30. Police said the victim had bruises on the face, neck, arms and hand. Vonnieda was arrested, arraigned and committed to county prison on $20,000 cash bail.
A package was stolen from a front porch around 5 p.m. Nov. 24 in Lindham Court. Police said the package was confirmed to have been delivered, but when the resident returned home, it was not there. Police seek information and remind residents to remain diligent in tracking packages.
State Police at Carlisle (717-249-2121)
Police are investigating a theft of a motor vehicle in South Middleton Township on Nov. 26. Police did not provide any further details.
State Police at Newport (717-567-3110)
Police reported Nov. 30 that they received a report on Oct. 19 of a stolen wallet and theft of prescription drugs from Paradise Road, Wheatfield Township between 7:35 p.m. Oct. 18 and 8 a.m. Oct. 19. The wallet was recovered on Oct. 22, but the prescription drugs are still missing.
Police reported Nov. 20 that they received two reports of vehicles being broken into on Freedom Street and North 4th Street in Oliver Township between 9:45 p.m. Oct. 31 and 7 a.m. Nov. 1. Spare change, a purse and cash were reportedly taken.
