Pennsylvania State Police identified the man who was struck by a tractor-trailer Tuesday morning following an earlier crash.

Police identified the man as Javier J. Gallo, 74, of East Stroudsburg, and said he is still in critical condition at Geisinger Holy Spirit.

Police said they were investigating a rear-end crash on the Route 15 south ramp from Route 581 west in East Pennsboro Township at 11 a.m. Tuesday when a tractor-trailer struck Gallo and his 1998 Honda Accord.

Police said Gallo was attempting to exit his vehicle at the time the tractor-trailer struck the driver’s side of the vehicle.

The tractor-trailer continued traveling south on Route 15 when troopers stopped it a few miles from the scene, police said.

Police are investigating it as a hit-and-run crash but have not yet identified the driver of the tractor-trailer.

The State Police Forensics Unit and Reconstruction Unit were called to the scene, and the ramp was partially closed until about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.
