A Camp Hill woman was run over by her own sport utility vehicle in South Middleton Township Monday morning, causing suspected serious injuries, according to State Police at Carlisle.

Ashley A. Nelson, 32, was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer at 5:20 a.m. when she pulled over on the right shoulder of the Interstate 81 north on-ramp near mile marker 44, police said.

She did not properly put the Trailblazer in park, according to police. When she attempted to exit the SUV, it continued straight, “ran over” Nelson, and dragged her down an embankment.

Nelson was taken by Cumberland Goodwill EMS to UPMC Pinnacle Carlisle and later flown to Penn State Hershey Medical Center for suspected serious injuries, police said.

The Trailblazer had to be towed. Carlisle fire crews and South Middleton Township fire police assisted on scene.
