A New Cumberland business owner has pleaded guilty in federal court to charges that he underreported his income for tax purposes by more than $400,000.

An investigation into Powers Auto Repair owner Bruce Powers, 53, revealed he had underreported his income by roughly $238,000 on his 2010 income tax return and by more than $200,000 in 2012, according to a news release issued by the U.S. Department of Justice. Powers will be required to pay nearly $69,000 in restitution for the unpaid taxes and could face maximum penalty of three years in prison, according to the Department of Justice.
