CAMP HILL — Officials say an inmate died Wednesday at State Correction Institution at Camp Hill.
Superintendent Laurel Harry reported that Joseph Diorio, 33, was found dead at 4 p.m. Wednesday by a corrections officer, who was performing an inmate count in the restricted housing unit.
The officer noticed that Diorio was not visible through the cell window, the prison said. Diorio was then found in his cell with a sheet around his neck and tied to the sink, the prison said.
Officers provided immediate emergency first aid until facility medical personnel arrived from the infirmary, the prison said. Diorio was pronounced dead at 4:16 p.m. by a staff doctor, and the official cause of death will be determined by the Cumberland County Coroner’s Office.
Pennsylvania State Police is investigating the incident, as a matter of policy, the prison said.
Diorio was serving a 1- to 3-year sentence for possession with intent to deliver drugs from Philadelphia County. He had been at the prison since May 9.
