HARRISBURG — A former pediatric oncologist at Penn State Hershey’s Children’s Hospital Wednesday pleaded guilty to child pornography distribution charges in U.S. District Court in Harrisburg.

David H. Scanlan III, a former physician-in-training, was charged last week after an investigation that started in 2011. The plea was entered in open court before U.S. District Judge John E. Jones III in Harrisburg, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office. Jones accepted the plea, adjudicated Scanlan guilty of the charge and ordered a

presentence report.

Jones told Scanlan the plea agreement made between him and the government is not binding on the court and he can sentence Scanlan up to a maximum of 20 years in federal prison, the office said.
