Route 233/Centerville Road will be closed for one week starting Monday in the Newville area for construction related to the Cumberland Valley Rail Trail, PennDOT said.
Route 233 from Fairfield Street in Newville Borough to Ritner Highway in West Pennsboro Township will close to all traffic around 6 a.m. Monday. Drivers will be directed around the closure by a signed detour using Route 11/Ritner Highway, Oakville Road and Route 533 (Fairfield Street or Shippensburg Road).
PennDOT said the closure is necessary so that the Cumberland Valley Rail Trail Council can have its contractor, Farhat Excavating LLC of Duncannon, excavate and install a box culvert to extend the trail under the road.
The installation should take about one week to complete, and Route 233 is expected to reopen to traffic by 6 a.m. Monday, June 26.
