The Newville Borough Council on Wednesday approved the closure of several of its buildings to the public until further notice following a surge in COVID-19 cases.
Newville Borough confirmed that its Halloween Parade scheduled for Monday night has been canceled due to expected thunderstorms.
“We just don’t have the number of vendors to pay for the event,” said Newville Borough Manager Fred Potzer, who serves on the committee that organizes the event.
PennDOT is seeking public input for a project replacing the bridge over Mill Race in North Newton Township and Newville Borough.
Hosted every year by the Newville Lions Club, the fair charges no admission or parking fees, generating funds from on-site sales and donations from participants.
The Newville Fair, Rural Life Festival in Newburg and Shippensburg Community Fair will all come back this month.
“I have spoken to people who think Newville is fine just the way it is, some of the old-timers who’ve been here a long time are not pro-change,” longtime resident Bob Darius said.
