Mount Holly Springs Borough Council Monday authorized staff to seek bids for a three-year trash contract.
The current pact with Advanced Disposal expires Dec. 31 and costs local households $54 a quarter for weekly curbside pickup of trash and recyclables, Borough Manager Thomas Day said.
He said local residents currently put trash out in bags or receptacles they purchase on their own while recyclables are placed in lidless bins the borough provides. There have been problems in windy conditions with recyclables spilling out of bins and scattering in borough streets, Day said.
The council directed him to seek bids on two options. One option would continue the status quo while the second option would have the trash hauler provide each household with separate two-wheeled lidded receptacles for trash and recyclables.
Trash bids could be opened during a council workshop meeting scheduled for April 26 and come up for a vote at the regular council meeting scheduled for May 14.
Under the current contract, Advanced Disposal will pick up one large item per week and leaves that are tied and placed in bags.
