Carlisle Area School Board Thursday appointed Molli L. Davis acting principal of the Mount Holly Springs Elementary School effective Feb. 27 through the end of the school year.
Davis replaces Principal Ruth-Ann Snyder who went on medical leave about a week before the effective date of the appointment, Superintendent John Friend said. He would not comment on the reason for the medical leave because it is a personnel issue.
Davis will receive a pro-rated salary of $71,000 as acting principal, Friend said. Prior to the appointment, Davis was the assistant principal at Crestview Elementary School.
In other action, the board approved school lunch and breakfast price increases that put the district into compliance with federal pricing equity requirements.
Elementary school lunch prices will go up by 20 cents next year from the current $2.70 to $2.90 while the price of a middle school and high school lunch will increase by 10 cents from $2.80 to $2.90.
As for breakfast, there will be a 10-cent increase for all students from the current $1.70 to $1.80. Milk prices at all schools will go up by a nickel to 70 cents.
The district has been phasing in increases over the past several years to gradually bring the meal prices into full compliance with requirements set by the Healthy Hunger Free Kids Act of 2010.
Under the act, the price the district can charge has to be equal to or exceed the reimbursement the district receives from the federal government for each free or reduced cost meal.
The 2017-2018 prices will bring Carlisle into full compliance, but for every future increase in subsidy, there must be a corresponding increase in the price of a lunch or breakfast meal.
About 37 percent of Carlisle School District students qualify for free or reduced cost meals.
