A Christmas Radio-thon benefiting the Salvation Army of Carlisle will be held Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Giant Food Stores, 950 Walnut Bottom Road, South Middleton Township.
The Salvation Army partners with WIOO-FM Country Gold radio 97.9 and CenturyLink, a communications services provider, for the event, which is in its fifth year.
WIOO-FM Country Gold 97.9 radio listeners are encouraged to call the Radio-thon hotline at 717-240-0235 throughout the day to make a donation. Funds generated will support programs and services provided year-round to hundreds of local families, such as My Brother’s Table feeding program, Choice food pantry, Clothing and household goods assistance and the Senior Action Center.
The Salvation Army of Carlisle has raised more than $35,000 through the Christmas Radio-thon since its inception. The goal for this year’s event is $12,000.
WIOO-FM will broadcast live from Giant every hour. Salvation Army staff and advisory board members will man the phones, provided by CenturyLink. Clients of Salvation Army’s meal program, housing program and social services will discuss on the air how the Salvation Army has helped change their lives.
“We would like to thank WIOO-FM Country Gold, Centurylink and Giant supermarket for partnering with us for the Radio-thon again this year, as well as the members of the community for their continued support,” said Maj. Alma Riley, co-commanding officer of the Salvation Army of Carlisle. “Funds raised through events like Radio-thon allow us to provide vital support to local residents who are struggling to make ends meet.”
Listeners may make a secure credit card donation to the Salvation Army of Carlisle through its website: www.SalvationArmyCarlisle.org. Donations are also accepted through the mail.
