Sweetheart Stroll

You don’t have to be sweethearts to stroll in downtown Carlisle this Saturday.

The second Sweetheart Stroll will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. The event is for couples or friends over the age of 18.

Participants in the stroll can stop in at Georgie Lou’s Retro Candy at South Pitt and West High streets to pick up a “map of hearts” to help them find the downtown stores participating in the event.

All of the stores offer deals that day, said Stephanie Patterson Gilbert, owner of Georgie Lou’s and organizer of the event. The stores also offer treats that invite visitors to linger such as wine, hot cider or light refreshments.

“It’s like an open house of sorts,” Gilbert said.

Gilbert takes the definition of couples broadly and encourages people to come out even if they don’t have a traditional “sweetheart.”

“When I say couples, I think best girlfriends or ‘bros’,” she said.

The names of the shops participating remains secret until the day of the event, which attracted 100 people last year.

“I would hope everyone goes everywhere,” Gilbert said.
