It’s been more than a year since Kenny Ray Johnson was sentenced to prison for bribing an undercover agent posing as a prostitute.

And it’s been more than three years since his fellow Middlesex Township police officers and other authorities set up an undercover prostitution sting and caught Johnson on tape unbelting his pants after the agent begged him not to arrest her and asked if he wanted a sexual favor.

Johnson, 45, reported to Cumberland County Prison Tuesday.

His 9- to 23-month sentence had been postponed pending his appeals to the state Superior and Supreme courts. Both of those courts denied Johnson’s appeals.

His defense attorney, Karl Rominger, asked Cumberland County Judge Edward Guido to allow Johnson to report to the prison on his own so he could pick up personal belongings at home, but Guido refused, and Johnson was led out in handcuffs.

Johnson was charged in November 2003 with rape, promoting prostitution, bribery and obstruction of justice. A jury convicted him of two counts bribery after a four-day trial in March 2005 and acquitted him on the other charges.

The one bribery count carries a jail term and the other a 36-month probation sentence, which Johnson will serve after he is released from jail.

He also was fired from the township police force.

Rominger says Johnson may appeal the sentence to the U.S. Supreme Court.
